For many people, the prospect of having a roommate can seem a little scary or uncomfortable. However, in these tough economic times, finding a good roomie to share the bills (and the living room) with is becoming much more common – and more necessary. With a little planning and good judgment, finding and keeping a roommate can be a wonderful, fun process with many benefits.

One of the most obvious reasons for having a roommate is to have someone to share the bills with. While splitting rent and any necessary utilities is common, some roommates also opt to share grocery bills, cable bills, and internet fees. If one lives alone, he or she would be responsible for all of these costs, but with a roommate or two, they are reduced by quite a lot.

In addition to sharing in fiscal matters, some roommates also choose to share household chores such as cooking and cleaning. Not having to come home from a tough day of work and clean the entire apartment is absolutely pricess!

Another added benefit of sharing one’s space is the security of knowing someone else is at home. If one goes on a trip or extended vacation, he or she will not have to worry about the apartment or deal with the hassles of finding an apartment sitter.

In some cases, roommates also become lifelong friends! If one rooms with a good friend or if he or she becomes friends with the roommate, imagine all the fun and laughter that will be shared! Living with someone whom one likes and enjoys spending time with is an incredible experience and bonds people together like no other. There is always someone there to talk to or watch a video with!

Of course, not every roommate situation will be ideal. That is where boundaries come in. Before taking the leap and moving in with someone, it is vital to discuss what both parties would like the living situation to be like! If one is looking for a pal to share conversations with, he or she should be upfront about this. Likewise, if one is the type of person who prefers to come home and go straight to his or her room, this is another thing to be honest about. One’s feelings on having guests over, on the type of guests allowed over, and on how long guests should stay are also matters to be discussed. In general, all habits, cleanliness issues, and lifestyle choices are matters that should be laid out in the open, so that there are no surprises or disappointments along the way. Being honest about one’s wants and needs is vital to finding the right roommate. The amount of rent to be paid and what other bills and responsibilities are to be shared are other decisions that should be made before anyone starts moving in his or her belongings!

If these careful steps are followed, and if everyone involved knows what to expect from the start, finding a roommate and living peacefully with him or her should be a great adventure!

In today’s economy, many individuals and families are opting to be long-term or even lifelong apartment renters instead of homeowners. Though these people have to deal with the small hassles of paying rent and signing leases, their choice also comes with many benefits and rewards.

One of the best things about renting is that the majority of people who rent are not responsible for taking care of the apartment’s upkeep or maintenance. If a light bulb goes out or if the dishwasher suddenly goes haywire, it is up to the landlord or, in some cases, the apartment’s maintenance crew to fix the problem promptly and without charge. Likewise, renters are not responsible for mowing lawns, trimming hedges, or dealing with the tedious chores that go along with yard maintenance.

Many apartments also offer several money saving and fun to use ammenities such as gyms and weightrooms, clubhouses for holding parties or events, swimming pools, tennis courts, and walking trails. With some careful shopping around, it is easy for renters to find a property that meets their needs – and wants. These amenities are often included in the rent and are in close proximity to one’s apartment. Think of the money saved by not having to pay to join a gym or swimming pool or to install these costly amenities in one’s own home!

Another way in which renting an apartment helps to save money is that many apartments include some or all utilities in with the monthly rent payment. Some apartments even provide free cable or free wireless internt access. And, of course, apartment dwellers do not have to worry about paying costly property taxes.

In years past, one of the reasons many people chose to own homes was because they couldn’t bear the thought of not being allowed a cuddly companion or two. That, however, is a thing of the past! A great deal of apartments now allows renters to have pets. In some cases, renters may have to pay a pet deposit or pet rent, but for many, that is a small price to pay for having a furry friend at home. There are also apartments made specifically for certain age groups or that allows or disallows children, so it’s quite easy to find one’s dream living space!

Having neighbors in such close proximity and having an abundance of neighbors are other pluses to apartment dwelling. With so many people around, it is almost impossible not to make a new friend on the trek to the mailbox or while walking the dog. Even if one is not planning on being a long term apartment renter, there are still benefits to living in an apartment short term. In some cases, leases can be signed on a monthly basis, making a perfect arrangement for someone in the process of finding a new home or someone who doesn’t plan on being in the area for long.

Whatever the reason one chooses apartment living over home ownership, it is very easy to find the perfect apartment to meet all an individual’s desires.
